Always dreamed of pursuing a medical career in sport? Then we had some good news for our 2019 conference delegates because our next theme was one for the aspiring motorsport doctors, pitch side physios and ultra-marathon paramedics…
‘Thriving in Sport’ – High Performance and working with Extreme Athletes
Abigail Forsyth, an Anaesthetics Clinical Fellow, discussed the meteoric rise of ‘ultra’ events in the UK, and the specific medical problems that often face participants in these types of events.
Then, we heard from Isobel Morley – Surgical Trainee and Elite Motorsport Medic, as she talked about her research into the effects of dehydration on desert endurance drivers, as well as discussing the difficulties (and pressures) of treating world champions and elite athletes!
