Tom Cruise – World Extreme Medicine Conference 2021

Following delays to the launch of the NASA SpaceX Crew-3 mission to the International Space Station, Tom Cruise will now be joining NASA Astronaut Victor Glover virtually for a special conversation at the World Extreme Medicine Conference 2021. From 13th – 15th November in Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh or via a digital ticket platform.

The original planned conversation between Cruise and Tom Marshburn, who was to be aboard the ISS, has subsequently had to be cancelled due to weather and medical delays moving the Crew-3 mission launch date.

World Extreme Medicine partnered with Cruise and the Mission: Impossible team throughout the pandemic to make film production in the time of Covid a Mission: Possible and Space has been a main theme of the conference for many years.

Victor Glover, along with NASA astronauts Shannon Walker, Mike Hopkins, and Japan’s Soichi Noguchi, reached the International Space Station in November 2020, landing back on Earth in May 2021. Their spacecraft, Resilience, set a record for the longest spaceflight by a U.S. space capsule carrying crew. They were also the first U.S. crew to make a night-time splashdown since 1968.

Glover was the pilot on the first operational flight of the SpaceX Crew Dragon to the International Space Station. He has accumulated 3,000 flight hours in more than 40 aircraft and has completed over 400 carrier arrested landings and 24 combat missions. Glover’s call-sign is “Ike”, a name given to him by one of his first commanding officers, standing for “I Know Everything.”

Cruise and Glover will discuss the physical demands of being a NASA Astronaut, the journey from training through to the first launch and Glover’s extensive experience.

World Extreme Medicine founder, Mark Hannaford, had this to say, “Following the delays to the SpaceX Crew-3 mission we are delighted to have still been able to provide a special conversation between Tom Cruise and Victor Glover and we want thank both for working with the World Extreme Medicine Conference to be able to facilitate this fantastic solution.”

The annual World Extreme Medicine Conference is a three-day hybrid conference providing access to a network of expert speakers across the full breadth of extreme medicine. For its 10th year, it will explore the new world that now awaits following the COVID-19 pandemic encompassing humanitarian, disaster relief, expedition, space, military, tactical and performance medicine.
