Nikki’s academic career incorporates 23 years applied science experience (human performance in challenging environments) with an equal volume of science/medical publishing, alongside 15 years continuous outdoor operational experience overseas (Desert, Ocean, Winter Mountain). 5 years post-graduation was split equally between Editor for 3 sports & exercise science publications in addition to Applied Science Editor of a human performance company working with elite extreme athletes such as the Jordan Formula 1 team, Vendee Globe sailors, FTSE 500 companies, and organisations such as the NHS. Nikki’s role was to translate scientific research from the areas of stress, sleep, nutrition and fitness into practical interventions with high compliance for their ground-based operations.
She spent the next 15 years overseas operating her own applied-science adventure company, working with amateur extreme athletes (water and snowsports) to enhance their performance through coaching, video analysis, and education. The latter was achieved via a self-published bi-annual 32 page publication which translated scientific research into readable content for a non-medical/non-scientific audience. Since returning to the UK 3 years ago, Nikki has become an Honorary Senior Lecturer (Sports & Health Sciences) and Fellow of Extreme Medicine at Exeter University, in addition to undertaking consultancy/lecturing for commercial companies with a focus of human performance in challenging environments.
