Moniek is an Emergency Medicine resident in the Netherlands, who also spends 2-3 months each year serving as a ship or expedition physician, which often means she spends time in the Antarctic and Arctic regions. She’s also worked in Suriname, Indonesia and recently Malawi as the expedition doctor on a charity bike ride.
Moniek enjoys the adventures at sea, as they test her skillset and ability to think creatively. She’s dealt with head trauma, broken legs, acute abdomen and most recently a passenger with a cardiac arrest in the middle of the Greenland sea, over 600 miles from a possible helicopter rescue.
When not on an extreme voyage, Moniek loves to spend time outdoors, watching the ocean and finding wildlife.
