Session: Exploring the World Through Friendships – A Novel Approach to Global Health Education

Matthew Lee is a final year medical student at Cardiff University. He has had a longstanding interest in Expedition and Humanitarian Medicine, leading him to become a committee member with his Wilderness and Expedition Medicine Society.

He enjoys multi-day treks and has completed the West Highland Way and the Haute Route. Prior to medical school he worked as a ski instructor in St Anton and is about to complete his elective with Glenshee Ski Patrol. Last summer he was lucky enough to be a medical volunteer with the EcoChallenge Fiji Medical team, an unforgettable experience that fuelled his desire to pursue a career in Expedition and Humanitarian Medicine. He has also been the President of the Community First Responder Society and over the course of the last year, he has become involved in a novel scheme that aims to change the way we view global health education.
