Gareth Lock is passionate about improving diving and diver safety by applying knowledge and tools from high-risk industries and bringing those to the diving industry. He retired from the RAF in February 2015 after 25 years as a flight instructor, systems engineer, trials officer and requirements manager. In January 2016, he developed face-to-face and online training programmes to educate and coach divers and diving instructors on human factors and non-technical skills. Since then, he has trained more than 300 divers face-to-face around the globe using his globally unique programme and his online programme won an award for innovation in 2018.
In March 2019, he published his first book ‘Under Pressure: Diving Deeper with Human Factors’ which has sold more than 1500 copies. He regularly presents on how we need to change attitudes to human error and create a Just Culture within the diving industry if we want to improve safety.
