Bentley is a Royal Navy Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pre-Hospital Care. In his civilian practice he is a Consultant Major Trauma Anaesthetist at University Hospital Southampton and a HEMS Consultant with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. With the military he is the Royal Navy Clinical Specialist Advisor in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care, serves with the Royal Marine Commando Forward Surgical Team and is a Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) Consultant and Instructor.
Bentley has had the privilege to work as a doctor on expeditions around the world prior to joining the Royal Navy and has since deployed many times on maritime and land operations. His highlights during registrar training were deploying to Afghanistan, undertaking a trauma anaesthesia fellowship in Vancouver and working for London’s Air Ambulance.
Bentley is actively involved in medical education and teaches on several military and civilian medical courses. He has developed an interest in mental resilience and well-being in high-functioning medical teams.
