Arvid Schigt completed his emergency medicine (EM) speciality training in Amsterdam in 2016. EM in the Netherlands was founded only 20 years ago and is yet to be fully recognised as a speciality.
Inspired by friends and colleagues who left their Dutch homes to work abroad, he planned to gain experience in countries where EM is more established. Immediately following his training, he left to Bangor, North-Wales, to work as a clinical fellow in EM and PHEM for a year and a half. Since August 2018, Arvid is working as a retrieval registrar for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia, based in Dubbo and Broken Hill for 2 years. After this, he plans to return to the UK for a year before heading off to New Zealand.
His main passions outside work are surfing, hiking, wild camping, snowboarding and more recently riding a dirt bike in the Australian Outback.
