Professional Title: Sea Turtle Veterinarian
Companies and organisations: The Olive Ridley Project
Session: Extreme Sea Turtle Veterinary Medicine; Saving Ancients in Remote Locations
Amelia (Minnie) wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 3 years old. She is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and is licensed to practice in the UK, Maldives and North America (she made sure to maximise her licensure to chase more experiences!). She has been working exclusively with sea turtles since September 2020, after realising that she wasn’t making use of the incredible passport to the world that was her veterinary degree.
She wanted to go the road less travelled, and be a vet where no one else was, advocating for animals that few vets practice with. She sees it as a privilege to be working to save these ancient reptiles from the devastating effects of humans, namely in the form of fishing gear which entangles thousands of marine animals a year and is responsible for an untold number of deaths. Her passion is her job and vice versa and she loves to share her unique position with people who don’t really know that someone in her role even exists!
