Around the World – 29,000km in 281 days

Louis Snellgrove & Lloyd Griffiths

Louis (Aged 31 from Leeds, England) and Lloyd (29 from Pontyclun, Wales) cycled around the globe on our tandem bicycle, unsupported, raising money and awareness for medical research and set a new Guinness world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by tandem bicycle.

We cycled in total of 29,000km in 281 days.

We encountered many trials and tribulations on our journey including… being hit by a truck on our first day, robbed at knife point in the Gobi desert of Mongolia, coming face to face with a Siberian brown bear in the Russian wilderness, knocked off our bicycle by a selfie taking motorcyclist in India….. to name but a few. We met many wonderful characters along the way including an astronauts, superstar footballer, polar explorer, ambassadors, and leading world scientists.

We cycle on average over 100km/day despite having to sleep in our tent in the wilderness, cook on a fire (including in the snow and subzero conditions), carry all our own food / water / possessions and battle with the daily elements which made our challenge all the more difficult given we cycled around the world the wrong way….
