While attending our World Extreme Medicine Conference, you can attend a variety of hands-on workshops running alongside our key speaker programme. You can learn and practise specific techniques to further aid your medical skillset while out in challenging and austere environments.

We have a host of world-renowned field experts running a wide choice of workshops over the course of 3 days. These unique workshops are specifically tailored to help you understand issues you could face when practicing medicine in remote places and under-equipped situations. Gain in-depth knowledge of the most effective, proven-in-the-field techniques to help you successfully deal with them.

A few of our Extreme Workshops:

Outdoor skills workshops with Zac Poulton and Josh Bakker-Dyos
Zac and Josh will be running a series of outdoor workshops throughout day 1, from ropework to navigation, ascending and descending fixed lines to covering one-on-one evacuations, and how to make an improvised stretcher, plus polar travel and campcraft. Basically, all the essential skills you would need to practise medicine in an outdoor or mountainside environment.

Expedition dentistry with Burjor Langdana
An unmissable practical session on the prevention, diagnosis and medical management of common dental conditions with limited resources in challenging environments.

Conference days: Day 1 and 2
Dates: Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th November
Cost: £35 per session

Caught in the middle of a multiple casualty terrorist attack!
Would you know what to do in the vital first minutes?
The aim of this workshop is to teach you highly effective skills, techniques and knowledge to help save lives in those critical first few moments before the arrival of the emergency services on scene.

Conference day: Day 3
Date: Monday 27th November
Cost: £35 per session

USS workshop: Introduction to physics of ultrasound with Luca Carenzo
This workshop will run through basic knobology, focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST), morrison view, perisplenic view, suprapubic and subxhyphoid view, extended to chest evaluation and general principles of US guided vascular access.
Conference days: Day 1, 2 and 3
Dates: Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th November and Monday 27th November
Cost: £35 per session

How to get your first job as an expedition medic
This talk is aimed at If you are a healthcare professional wanting to get your first experience/job as an expedition medic then this is THE talk for you. Run by Luca Alfatti, the award-winning expedition leader and remote medic will talk you through necessary preparations, what courses could be useful to attend, tips on what companies to contact and how to present yourself.
The talk will be in the Salisbury Room at 16.30 – 17.00.

Date: Saturday 25th November
Cost: £5 booking fee
